Pari BO collection Day 3: Anushka Sharma starrer rakes in over Rs 9 crores

The puzzlers or ‘promotional videos’ of Anushka Sharma starrer Pari, which showcases the actress playing the lead character, left all frightened out of tehir mind.

Hopes were really high; Anushka’s production venture was hyped to be a game-changer in this genre. And if the first day performance of the flick is anything to go by, the viewers have given the movie a positive signal.

As per early estimations, the flick made approximately Rs 6 crore on its initial day. The film’s morning shows registered less occupancy owing to safety issues linked with Holi but the evening shows of the flick did positive business.

With inadequate appraisals from the reviewers, this paranormal horror movie has apparently failed to woo audience as well. In addition, its release during the time of Holi, which was projected to be a positive time for Pari to set the ticket counters on fire, has turned otherwise. In spite of the long weekend, the flick managed to gather around Rs 9.83 crore during the initial two days of its release.

Directed by Prosit Roy, the movie also has Parambrata Chatterjee and Rajat Kapoor donning the noteworthy characters. Virat Kohli’s wife dons the character of a possessed girl Rukhsana in the movie.

In her review of Pari, well-known film critic, Shubhra Gupta wrote, “Anushka Sharma plays Rukhsana with a great deal of bloody enthusiasm. You cannot accuse her of not trying hard, but the film is so poorly-written, and so scatter-brained that nothing can rescue it, not even a leading lady who is determined to do something different with her producing heft. Poor Parambrata Chatterjee is left trying to hold up the story, such as it is, and is the only one left standing.”

The film has been bagging mixed appraisals from all sides. Virat Kohli has called Pari “one of the best films I’ve seen in a long time” and said that it was her “best work ever”.

Film reviewer Saibal Chatterjee gave the flick ‘2 stars out of 5’ and wrote, “Pari is an uneven film that could have benefitted from the intervention of a more assertive editor. While it is replete with twists, these throw the audience off rather than aid in enhancing clarity. The film does not keep up the pressure all the way through because it meanders into unnecessary spaces en route to its goal.”
