Deepika Padukone gives a befitting reply to Swara Bhaskar for her open letter on Padmaavat!

Bollywood actress Swara Bhaskar Bollywood actress Swara Bhaskar has recently made headlines due to all the wrong reasons. The actress recently writes an open letter to Sanjay Leela Bhansali and slams the director for glorifying sati and jauhar in his film.

The actress was offended by the end of the film where Rani Padmini (Deepika Paduone) commits Jauhar to safeguard herself from evil Alauddin Khilji. She said that she felt reduced to a vagina by the end of it.

In the letter, Bhasker wrote, “That’s what I felt like at the end of your magnum opus. I felt like a vagina. I felt reduced to a vagina-only.”

Swara has got extreme reactions to her letter; while some agreed to what she has penned, some feel otherwise.

Now, Deepika Padukone who plays a lead role of Rani Padmini in the film reacts on her open letter.

While talking to an entertainment portal, Deepika said,  “I think people miss the fact that this film was set in an era- in the 12th and 13th century when rituals like this were practiced.”

“She probably missed the disclaimer at the beginning of the film. You probably went out to buy some popcorn and missed the initial disclaimers that come out. I think, secondly, the fact that it is important to view a film in totality and to see in which period it was set in. Third of all, I think for me this film is not just about the act (jauhar) that they all committed, but it stood for so much more. For me, it’s a celebration of women and their strength, power and dignity.” she added.
